RMGB has completely redesigned this 19th-century family townhouse opposite the Château de Versailles. The client sold his Parisian apartment to move back into his childhood home. “The idea was to breathe new life into the house with a modern touch, but preserving the classic basis that surrounded our client during his childhood,” they reveal.
RMGB’s Baptiste Rischmann and Guillaume Gibert began by restoring damaged mouldings and the parquet flooring throughout the ground floor. Careful to respect the original architecture, they worked with craftspeople to design bespoke furniture for the different rooms to ensure that the original volumes remained intact. For the open kitchen, this included the design of a large stainless-steel cupboard with retractable doors, which sits behind a Calacatta (Viola) marble island unit, concealing the hob and oven. In the dining room, Willy Rizzo vintage chairs are paired with a Carlo Nason pendant light and an Aubusson tapestry by Roger Muhl of Pinton.
Noble materials and graphic effects pervade every floor. In the salon, a minibar unit with fluted wooden doors echoes the rays of a carpet designed by the duo. At the centre, a Nacho Carbonell ceiling light perfectly complements the Lek sofa designed by Christophe Delcourt for Collection Particulière, and a pair of 6911 vintage armchairs by Horst Bruning.
Eager to mix the old with new, Baptiste Rischmann and Guillaume Gibert have designed an extremely sleek bathroom of classical proportions, with a Grigio Carnico marble basin. In the master bedroom, the bed takes its inspiration from designs by Jean Royère. This revamped residence is a classic through and through that will undoubtedly stand the test of time.
