Inside de Gournay's Transformative Flagship Shanghai Showroom

Designs and motifs of wallpaper often encompass a world of their own, from romantic European gardens to the depths of wildlife, from retro to fashionable and graceful scenes to different seasons, almost instant immersive ambiences can be created right at home

British luxury interiors manufacturer de Gournay - who specialize in state of the art wallpapers and fabrics - are in a league of their own when it comes to artistic creativity and integrating the beauty of the East and the West. Trained craftsmen and artisans create works of art, whether by meticulously hand painting or hand embroidery, to ensure there is no comparison in the market. Whether it’s a dreamy landscape that looks like you’re enveloped within the sky, or imposing eclectic personality-driven patterns to highlight each and every room, the sky’s the limit. This is where interior dreams are made.

During the extenuating circumstances last year, de Gournay did not rest on their laurels, taking the opportunity instead to undertake essential renovations to their international showrooms – refreshing their unique brand presence within some of the most diverse cities in the world. Their flagship Shanghai showroom situated within the old French concession, is a case in point. Installed throughout the original 1930’s Rowhouse, hand painted and hand embroidered wallpapers and fabrics tell a tale of China’s splendid past and artisanal expertise – handed down across centuries, as enlivening within contemporary interiors as it was 300 years before.

A stunning showcase of de Gournay’s increasingly specialist techniques, the finished polish of the interior is complimented with the addition of bespoke rugs from The Rug Company, lighting by Collier Webb and custom made furniture from The Interiors House – resulting in a setting closer to a private residence. Open by appointment, the property is also available for hiring for other creative endeavours, such as photo shoots, filming and staging. As stepping inside is akin to venturing into the tasteful abode of a cultured family, this evocative space will undoubtedly be a hit.
