Architect Sandra Benhamou Has Redesigned and Restructured an Apartment, Just a Stone’s Throw Away From the Place de l'Etoile in Paris

Located on the fifth floor of a Haussmanian building, this family apartment of 3,000 square feet embodies sophistication and peace

The owners, who returned to Paris after twenty years in New York, work in the world of high jewelry. They wanted a sophisticated space with a peaceful atmosphere, thus sourced the services of Sandra Benhamou. She transformed the apartment's original classic triple reception area into an imposing living room consisting of an open kitchen, dining room, living room and a large office. The majestic entrance was also preserved and restored.

The moldings and cornices, the aged mirrors, the stained-glass windows and the period fireplaces restored by the architect are the starting point of the apartment's decoration. To contrast this bourgeois style, Sandra Benhamou designed custom-made furniture pieces such as the Mia sofa from the Ginger collection, inspired by the atmosphere of American bars in the 1970s, two dining tables in glossy varnished rosewood, walnut and brass bookcases that she decided to combine with pieces of Brazilian and Italian vintage design and a collection of contemporary art. Lighting by Angelo Lelli and Fontana Arte, armchairs by Marco Zanusso, coffee tables by designers Erwan Boulloud from Galerie Glustin or Dan Pollock from Galerie Desprez Breheret, a sideboard by Joaquim Tenreiro, a desk by Franco Albini, paintings by Gideon Rubin from Galerie Karsten Greve...

She chose materials that are emblematic of the 80’s such as patinated brass and polished stainless steel, which echo the Santos de Cartier universe, and which are mixed with exotic woods such as teak and rosewood, travertine and tinted mirrors. The multiplicity of materials allows for a play of opposition between matte and shine, opacity and transparency. Meanwhile, in the spectacular kitchen, aged nickel and stainless steel with a central island dressed in very unique travertine scabas becomes a masterpiece.
